24 hr blood pressure monitoring

Blood pressure monitoring provides an important indicator of heart health and how hard the heart is working to pump blood. The San GP Centre provides 24 hour blood pressure monitoring where requested by your doctor.

High blood pressure can put a strain on the heart and lead to potential issues such as stroke or heart disease. When your GP requires more information about your blood pressure, they may recommend you participate in an overnight blood pressure monitoring test. Blood pressure varies naturally throughout the day, responding to various activities from resting to exercising. The 24 hour monitoring provides vital information to determine if treatments such as blood pressure medications are needed.

When the monitor is fitted, instructions are provided on what to do during the 24 hours to ensure the readings are accurate. The blood pressure cuff is fitted to the upper arm and connected to a portable blood pressure monitoring unit. The patient wears the device for 24 hours, during which time the unit measures the blood pressure at regular intervals. They then return to the medical clinic at the same time the next day to have the cuff and monitor removed.

Your GP can advise what your ideal blood pressure level should be and blood pressure checks are generally conducted as part of routine health checks to help maintain a healthy heart. Having overnight blood pressure monitoring services at our Wahroonga GP surgery makes access convenient for residents across the northern Sydney suburbs, including Turramurra, Hornsby, St Ives, Pennant Hills, Thornleigh, Beecroft and Cherrybrook.
