Immunisation of children & travel vaccinations
Immunisation provides protection against disease through the administration of vaccinations. The most common types of vaccination relate to the immunisation of babies and young children or those preparing to travel overseas and these can be obtained through the San GP Centre on Sydney’s north shore.
Children: To reduce the risk of serious diseases, on-time immunisation is encouraged for babies and young children. As part of our children’s health services, the San GP Centre’s professionals can advise on which vaccines are recommended for your child, taking into account their age and medical history. They can also answer any concerns you may have and conduct a general health check at the same time.
The Australian Government provides advice on the routine childhood immunisations recommended for all Australian children from 2 months to 4 years. Vaccines are provided as either an injection or orally by mouth, and combination vaccines are available to help minimise the number of injections needed.
Travel: For those planning to travel overseas, our doctors at our Wahroonga clinic can advise on the recommended vaccines for your destination, as well as considering if any of your standard vaccines need boosting.
Travel vaccinations reduce the risk of contracting diseases such as hepatitis, typhoid, yellow fever, and more, which may be prevalent in your destination but are rare at home. Some diseases can be severe or even life-threatening, so prevention is crucial.
As some travel vaccinations require time before protection commences, it is recommended you visit the San GP Centre at least 6 to 8 weeks before you travel. Travel vaccinations not only protect you against infections while on your journey, but help prevent global disease outbreaks and stop you spreading illnesses on your return home.
Make an appointment at our GP clinic on Sydney’s north shore well in advance of your travel to ensure you meet the immunisation requirements of your destinations and reduce the likelihood of illness disrupting enjoyment of your trip.
